A notorious rake of the first order, three women ruined in his arms, and a plan for revenge so outrageously perfect make this a book impossible to put down. Literally, once I started it I couldn’t stop reading.

Desperate after losing the love of his life in a tragic accident, Leo turns to a life of debauchery, leaving a trail of broken hearts and ruined women in his wake.

One night, three of these women from his past conspire to kidnap him and hold him hostage in their cellar until he sees the error of his ways. Only one of them still loves him…

This is a delightfully naughty read, but not so raunchy that it is insulting. I enjoyed every last page and will look for more from this author.

I’ve finished reading The Sweetest Revenge in a very short period of time, mostly because I was grabbing every spare minute I had to get back to my Kindle. This isn’t a routine or standard formula sort of historical romance, indeed there were times it made for vaguely uncomfortable reading but ultimately I felt this was a strength of the novel. The Earl is a character that I wasn’t sure I actually wanted to like at certain points in the story, nor did I always feel throughout that he deserved a HEA. I’m glad his behaviours and their consequences were fully explored over the course of his captivity and as a result I found the character development arc satisfying come the finale.

I appreciate a character who can show immense development, particularly one who is at times the villain and as a result I enjoyed this read because it was thought provoking and prompted me to consider the past of the main characters from differing points of view. *SPOILER* I felt the use of his friend stepping in at the end in a challenge turned love detracted a little from the storyline and I felt for the character getting a knuckle sandwich and broken heart all in one swoop, and that felt a little rushed and almost like a loose thread in the tapestry, but it didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment of the story. I’ll look forward to more titles from Dawn.

The writing cannot be faulted. This author knows how to tell a story so well you can feel like you are part of it. My rating has to do with story preference. I do not like the hero to have any sexual interactions with other than the heroine intended for him…even if it’s unwilling participation. Call it prudish but I want the characters to be exclusive. The same goes for the heroine. I just didn’t like some of the interactions going on with some of the characters and for that reason, I gave it 4 stars. I guess I thought it lost some believability and that was disappointing.
