The Alien's Pet

When an injured stranger breaks into her small-town veterinary clinic late at night and demands that she assist in treating his wounds, Serena Spiers knows right away that something is amiss. Though he is undoubtedly handsome, the intruder’s oddly colored eyes and extraordinary height leave no doubt in her mind that he is not of this world.

Seeking to escape her predicament, she treats his wounds and then does her best to discretely sedate him, but a tranquilizer shot proves far l

The heroine is a veterinarian on Earth. A wounded alien stumbles into her country vet practice and she reluctantly stitches him up. After a series of events that make zero sense, she’s captured by the alien and taken to a spaceship in order to save her life (so to be clear, the alien intended to leave her on Earth, he didn’t particularly want her). His alien culture’s rules state that humans are pets and all pets have to be under control or they’re euthanized. So what does she do? Bite an alien. He gets her out of that impulsive mess. Then he explains he’s taking her to a very straight laced planet where women never, ever speak and that it would be super dangerous if she broke the rules. She promises to follow his direction in all things…and at the very first opportunity, she breaks her promise and nearly gets them both killed. Once again, he goes to extreme lengths to save her (and himself). So this was a tough book to read because the main character had the impulse control of a two year old. She really was a pet in terms of her ability to relate to these more advanced aliens. I guess the sex scenes were ok, but it wasn’t like they had a relationship. He was trying to make the best of it and she enjoyed his domination.

I find this book mild compared to some of this author’s books that I enjoyed more. It is good, there is a lot of imagination behind the world’s and accepted behavior on them. I think she should have been punished more for some of her behaviour. She acted immature for a vet in some ways.

Liked the Sci-fi element to this story as well as the relationship between Zed and Serena. Serena is rescued by a hot alien after it is found an alien has seen her. Now she has to adapt to a whole new world. Enjoyed reading about their travels and experiences. Great for an afternoon of relaxation. Not too long and not too short; not too dramatic or harsh, just right!
