I didn’t expect that.

She tells me she’s a lover of chicken pizza and video games, a hot sorority girl with the nickname Sloth. She wants to know something about me in return. She says I owe her.

A wonderful book that will leave you thinking…and reeling…and grateful., June 26, 2015

Melancholy. If asked how I would describe this book, that’s the word I would choose. It’s the one that most often came to mind as I was thinking about the tone of Sloth, and it’s the one that best describes my own mood. Both as I worked my way through this lengthy, wonderful book, and now, as I try to sort out my thoughts long enough to write a coherent review.

Sloth is about secrets. As such, pretty much any synopsis I attempt to give you will result in spoilers, so I’ll steer clear. You don’t need to know the story to appreciate every twist, every turn, every emotion, every secret; in fact, it’s better you don’t. There were times when I had to scroll back a couple of pages to check I’d not missed anything in my haste to find out what was happening, because Sloth moves a lot. But, as Ms. James slow but surely reveals everything you need to know to understand these characters, the overall picture becomes clearer with each page. The possibilities change often, and part of the gift of this book is trying to figure it out. To unravel it. To will the story in the direction you want it to go in, because the other options…the other options have the potential to hurt.

This one did hurt. Maybe more for me than others, maybe less, but it definitely hit me hard. The blurb advises you, “if you’re sad, read another book”, but don’t. Don’t find another book. Take it from someone that struggles with sadness, if you’re going to seek out anything, seek out the strength to open this one and read it to the end. And when I say the end, I’m including the author’s note, which, at the conclusion of a book that had me oft reaching for the tissue box, set me off once again. And gave me pause, as I considered how lucky I am.

As the melancholy clears and I order my thoughts for this review, I find myself reflecting on a brilliant story that captivated me from the start, took me up, down and around again, and just made me…grateful. Perhaps, then, grateful is the word I should use when describing this fantastic book? ~ Beth, 6 stars

Give me a minute to find my heart…

It seems that my lungs have departed too as I’m having trouble breathing.

Sloth. What the f— just happened? Ella James is a mastermind with her words. She beautifully crafted a book that will leave you debilitated. I laughed, I swooned, I gasped, I took tips on what sex should be like (hint: hotter than sin), I screamed at my Kindle and I partook in full body sobs. You know, the type of crying that is not only ugly, but also makes you feel like you are going to wretch. Many times I had to put the book down and do a few laps around my house to just calm myself. My kids were fully ignored and when they tried to pester me, there were more than a few times I sported a blush from the inappropriateness of Ella James and her magic.

Even now, a full 24 hours after reading “The End”, I still just want to be held like a baby who has a boo-boo. I still feel the ache in my heart, the swell in my throat and the moisture in my eyes. It’s amazing how a book, words essentially, has the ability to leave readers absolutely speechless. ~ Kelly, 5 stars

Some may have said it’s confusing…I found it brilliant.
Some may have said there are plot holes…after I had all the information, I was able to fill in the “holes”.
It’s your call whether to purchase this book or not, but I’m here to tell you that you’ll be missing one hell of a fantastic read if you don’t. This book kept me up for days, kept me turning the pages and thinking, wondering, guessing. And when the pieces of the puzzle were put into place (which I did not see at all with all of my guesses) it became a race to the end. I didn’t want it to end, but I couldn’t stop reading about these two characters. I fell in love with them from very early on, and since this is such a long book, I got to love them for a while. And I still love them. It’s taken me days to form enough thoughts to write a review, because it’s so hard to talk about this book without giving anything away. And giving away the secrets to this book should be a crime. Anyone reading it with previous knowledge of what will happen is getting gypped. And it’s not fair. I think everyone should feel the shock of it. The full impact.
So… with that being said. I can’t go into detail about Sloth…or really about the characters. But I will tell you to buy this book. Even at 4.99, it’s definitely worth it. I would’ve spent more on it.

Holy. Cow. Best. Book., July 6, 2015

Talk about a book… at first it was a little slow, but I couldn’t put it down. After a few chapters I was already guessing on the how, what, who, and when… boy was I wrong. I was completely thrown off my rocker. I was so shocked. the writing in this book blew my mind. The characters had so much to them, it was beautiful. The story in itself was just EXTRAORDINARY! I was 50 pages from finishing the book when I realized I hadn’t slept , that i read all through the night, and I had to get ready for work. When I got there, I was still crying and telling everyone about this book. I got to leave early because I was such in a rush to finish I actually did everything with time to spare. This book is seriously one of the best books I’ve ever read. The story: the love, the pain, the hope… you feel it all. You’re one with the characters and it was such a feeling to experience it. I am forever changed by this book, and I hope when you read it, it will change you too. Love is really that powerful, and this book… I’m just speechless. Buy it, read it, love it.
