(A re-imagining of my young adult book, The Fallen Star, told as a New Adult Paranormal. You can download the young adult version, The Fallen Star, for free on Amazon.)

For twenty-one year-old Gemma, life has never been normal. She knows nothing about her past and has been haunted by the same monsters in her nightmares for the last few months. Unemotional and numb to life, she feels disconnected from everyone.

This is the first book by Jessica Sorensen I’ve read – so I haven’t read the original YA version of this book, and even though most reviews say you don’t need to read them first, I can’t help but feel like I was missing something. But really, that’s not even the main problem.

What. The. Heck. This was the most erratic book I’ve ever read. All over the place erratic. Vampires, werewolves, fairies, keepers, forseers, angels, demons, death walkers…I mean, what??? Pick a supernatural creature and stick with it!! Its like the author was trying to get all her ideas down on paper before she forgot them all and therefore never really finished a complete thought…or plot line…or sentence. Honestly, several times Gemma makes a point to tell Alex to stop beating around the bush, or tiptoeing around his explanation and I wanted to be able to tell the author the same thing. I have never been so frustrated reading a book…and NO, not the good kind of frustration. Even the intimate parts of the book were alarming because there was sure a lot of teeth crashing, and lip biting and blood drawing and frantic ripping and pulling and none of it in a good way…I seriously wanted to step in and give these two a little advice about how to kiss and make out without hurting each other. I don’t know…I didn’t get it. I don’t know what all these 4 star reviewers were reading…just not my cup of tea.

    and then ending. seriously WTF?

here it is in a nutshell

“okay Gemma give me five minutes to finally explain the point of this whole book and why I totally seemed like I kicked you to the curb for the 8 millionth time, only to have you pass out convinced you were dying, for the 4 millionth time, only to have you wake up in an unfamiliar room/bed/state for the 5 millionth time, and if you don’t like what I say you can leave”

    THE END!!

what??????????????????????? What a freakin’ tease. I wouldn’t read the next one if you paid me.

This book is absolutely amazing! Jessica has taken a story I adore, kicked it up a notch and then turned it on it’s head. I love that this is a NA paranormal read. It is like a little gift wrapped bundle of my favorite things. Here are ten random reasons why I think this book is made of amazing topped with awesomesauce and sprinkled with spectacular:

    1) It is an “I can not put this book down and if you even think about asking me to then you should be very afraid” book.

    2) There is a scene so hot in this book that I was afraid my Kindle would melt.

    3) All bets are off. Everything you thought you knew about the Fallen Star means nothing. In a great way!

    4) Laylen… oh yes, Lalen is back and oh so much better than before 😉

    5) Nicholas …. I know another one name reason, but it is such a different reason then Laylen. You need to just trust me on this one.

    6) As awesome as The Fallen Star series is, you can only reread it so many times before you want to know more. I should know. I have reread each book before the next one came out.

    7) New Adult Para!!! Yep, that is the whole reason right there. I think this is a genre with a huge void. We need more.

    8) Jessica Sorensen wrote it. I do not know about you, but if she wrote a self help book about the best ways to watch paint dry, I would read it. Why? Because everything I have read of hers is amazing and I have read it all.

    9) All the things you wish had happened in The Fallen Star, but knew could not happen because it was YA are now a possibility!

1o) You do not have to know a think about the Fallen Star series to become completely and utterly sucked into this book and the world Jessica has created.

I highly recommend this book and am anxiously waiting for more books in this series. The characters seem almost real to me and the story is hot, filled with adventure, and unique. It is the perfect blend of new adult and paranormal. Being new adult, I highly suggest you be at least 17 plus before you read this book.

    Disappointed!, April 22, 2013

I bought this a while ago and was really looking forward to reading it based on all of the 5 star reviews. It sat in my library for a while before I actually started to read it. I wish i had waited to purchase so I could have read all of the 1 star reviews because I completely agree with them. This book is truly awful. I have to admit that I didn’t even finish reading the book and that is rare for me. i almost always have an obsessive need to finish a book I start, but this book just couldn’t hold my interest. Plus, let’s not ignore the fact that the plot was completely stolen from an old episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and a also partially from the Disney movie “Tangled”. The story was awful and I couldn’t connect with the lame and unappealing characters.

I usually feel bad when I bag on a book, but I really feel like it is deserved here. Trust me, do not waste your time or money on this one. I wish I hadn’t.
