Beauty and the Earl (The Pleasure Wars)

Desire as essential as breath…deception as fragile as sanity. The Pleasure Wars, Book 3Liam, the Earl of Windbury, had everything when he held his secret lover in his arms. Until a feud between their families left her dead, his body broken, and his sister married to his bitterest enemy. Wracked with guilt, simmering with rage, he’s spent a year in seclusion, seeing no one except a few servants as he does his best to forget the past and patently refuses to think about any kind of future. Naughty but Nice, His Seductive Muse, August 21, 2013

His Seductive Muse is a lovely little romantic novella in the Regency tradition of female wilfulness, male pride and bags of misunderstanding. The heroine is sweet and easy to empathise with but with a touch of mischief as can be discerned from the cover illustration. The hero is made interesting by his artistic moodiness and family tragedies. Both are hot blooded and passionate in temper and in love.
Of course it is inevitable that they’ll get together in the end but the hows and whys of their vicissitudes make satisfying reading and there is plenty of rounded supporting characters such as sleepy Aunt Charlotte.
I would recommend His Seductive Muse to fans of the romantic and the seductive. A strong follow up to Seduced Bride-to-be from June Richards. His Seductive Muse[[ASIN:B00ENPJS4W

Cute, quick story. However, the typos were many, the plot was thin, and it had no depth. Don’t get me wrong, it was a cute romance, with some sexy scenes, but it took me 35 minutes to read. Thin…..

Vera is a young woman who considers herself to be on the shelf. She is comfortably settled and doesn’t need to worry about money.

Our hero has inherited his title after the death of his father and brother. He had been away for years after a bitter falling out. And now he paints portraits, and he is painting Vera`s.

There is a strong attraction between them, and eventuallday comes when Vera`s chaperone is not with her — a plan Vera had worked out. She is determined to act on the feelings she has for this man.

They do wind up spending most of the night together, and the man proposes. She says she will marry him as long as she is able to keep control of her money. He is insulted she thinks him a fortune hunter. No one knows he has made a fortune himself and doesn’t need her money.

Eventually the misunderstanding is worked out and the couple are reunited.

The story was short but a sweet one. I would recommend it for a nice afternoon read.

A loved this story! Liam is broken not only on the outside from the accident but on the inside as well. He is bitter and angry that his sister married their families worst enemy and hidden himself away from everyone. He sister is desperate to receive any information on how her brother is, hires a courtesan to use any means necessary to get close to him. What a wonderful story, Violet is a smart and strong woman, she has overcome many obstacles and is close to reaching her goal. Her only problem is she is falling in love with the person she is deceiving. A sexy and fun read and I admit a few tears were shed at the ending.

Dark and Dangerous.. a book that feeds off one man’s darkest desires.. A glimpse into a deadly world of love, loss and revenge and when that fails..

Jess Michaels closes her Pleasure Wars Series with Beauty and the Earl.. this might be book three in the series but it was book one for me and let me just say WOW..

Beauty is an erotic delight.. touching on dark fantasy yet encircled by love.

The House Rothcastle and the House Windbury have been fueding for generations. From the cradle they are taught to hate each other. So when Liam Earl of Windbury had the audacity to fall in love with a daughter of the House of Rothcastle, there was hell to be paid. And paid it was.. Death was the price! Both sons were left alive but wounded but the true innocent. The one who wanted only peace was dead from a carriage accident. Both men pretty much spiral into darkness and despair. Both vow revenge, for Rothcastle it involves a sister for a sister (Book one of the Pleasure Wars, Taken by the Duke) but time and love have helped to heal him. Windbury on the other hand only spirals ever deeper.. he can’t have his revenge it will hurt the sister he adores..

Violet Milford is a courtesan, a decent one, but a courtesan. Forced on to the streets for daring to be raped and refusing to marry her rapist, Violet makes her way as best she can. She is beautiful, articulate and caring.. able to claim her price and smart enough not to mess with the ton.. But when the Duke of Rothcastle calls her to his house.. that’s right. To. His. House.. where his wife is.. Violet is most confused. When they offer her an intriguing proposition.. for a bucketload of money, Violet accepts.. even though she has a few qualms.

The proposition? Get close to Liam.. Find out how he is and if at all possible help him to find a way back to his sister. She misses him.

Liam, the Earl of Windbury has suffered for the past few years. Cut off from society, having chased everyone away, he has one friend left. And is quite lucky at that. Pretty much a recluse but when a gorgeous and famous member of the demimonde slips into his private room at Bath.. life suddenly changes. At first Liam is intrigued, curious.. but as time rolls on, he finds himself lost in desire. He wants Violet, he wants her for more than a moment in time..

What made this book wasn’t the oh so steamy sex scenes which there were plenty of.. It wasn’t the excellent storyline or the well developed characters. Nope it was the fact that Violet was a courtesan.. no meek and mild miss of the Regency era.. this was a woman who had lived. Who was forced to make her way in a society that didn’t really like women. And yet, she had goals and dreams. She wanted more from life and found a way to make them happen in the only way she knew how. With the only tools she had.

This was a most excellent book and I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to read it. I seriously suggest you all give it a try.

I loved this book. This is the final book in a wonderful series and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical romance. We don’t get to know a lot about Liam except in the first book and it’s minimal. So getting to know him in this book…he’s such a great character. For someone who is so scared emotional he is one hot and sexy man. Violet has her own secrets and troubles but she is a very strong woman. They came together under false pretenses but in the end they saved each other. Her and Liam just jumped off the pages that I couldn’t put the book down. Hands down this is my favorite book of the series.
