This was a short, erotic, historical tale involving a courtesan, an assassin, and a corrupt mayor. I think it’s a good way to sample Suzie Grant’s work. I read her Wrong Kind of Paradise recently and thoroughly enjoyed it as well.

For a short story, it was good. I did find the falling in love and opening up to each other with their dark secrets be a bit abrupt and sudden, but again, it’s a shortie. Ava is a courtesan who wants to hire Gabriel to kill her lover. Why? Because her lover killed her family… Well, Ava is a lusty woman who enjoys her job. I’m not into women of ill repute, myself, but I appreciated that this heroine enjoyed sex. It was a pleasant change from the frightened, simpering courtesans you often find in historical romances. Ava uses sex to her advantage and likes it.

I also liked that the sex scenes had some unique language/descriptions. Suzie Grant has a unique style and a good writer’s voice.

For The Sake Of Sin was an okay read. It had an up and down effect for me. The beginning of this short story didn’t draw me in. It took about 15-20 pages for me to connect with the plot and the characters. Marco is a horrible man, yet Ava was sexually attracted to him knowing what she new about him. Stone was hot. We all love the wounded, lost, mysterious guy. The ending of the story was super romantic and I loved it. 3.5 stars

    LOVED IT!, August 21, 2013

Romancing Lady Stone . . . oh, yes! Sigh.

    Truly an absolute delight!

Perfectly paced, and soooo romantic. The hero and heroine are scrumptious, faults and all. The instant attraction they feel for each other sets the foundation for a delicious, fulfilling story arc, with an, oh so, wonderful finish.

Page after page, I devoured the book, loving the descriptions, the internal dialogue, and the truly realistic characters. Cecilia, the titled lady, mother of four who married for money finds herself robbed and stranded in Russia. Konstantin, former Russian mobster is her unlikely rescuer. The sensual sparks fly in this spicy historical that takes the reader from Russian, to England, and back to Russian again.

If you not had the privilege of reading Ms. Marvelle’s work before, you’re missing out. Immensely talented, her stories always provide a romping good romance. I didn’t want the story to end.

I was provided a copy of this book for an honest review.

MIDNIGHT MAGIC, DESTINY, GALLANTRY, AND SEX . . . OH MY!, August 20, 2013

Delilah Marvelle does it again! She always finds some elements to add spice to her stories, that set them apart in some way from many other historical romances. Cecelia and Konstantin are wonderful protagonists. Their characters so well drawn, you almost become convinced they must be real people. Their story is something of a roller coaster ride that seems to pull cars from different lines onto one final track, ordained by destiny. Getting to that final track is an exciting ride that takes us on an emotional trip of highs and lows; from tears, fears and joy to a glorious and HOT HEA!

The story moves from Russia during a political and socially unstable time to an increasingly socially uptight England in the midst of the industrial revolution, and on the verge of the Victorian Era. Social stigmas just waiting to attack. Especially when the love story has a titled wealthy woman, 10 years older than her male love interest. I love that Delilah did this role reversal, we have the younger, socially inferior male instead of the usual older, titled male. This lends so much to great elements in the story and sets the story apart from the usual. But then Delilah Marvelle IS something apart from the usual!

A second theme running through the story concerns the founder of the School of Gallantry, Madame de Maitenon and a lost love, which Delilah only uses to tease the reader unmercifully!

I don’t want to give anything away. The “Description” provided by the author succinctly provides the major elements of the story. I won’t say more about it, BUT YOU HAVE GOT TO READ THE BATH SCENE!!!

I loved the characters, the entire story, and the promise of more to come!

I really liked this plot and the older heroine, younger hero was a nice change, as was her existing family situation. I loved the character development. I was very let down by only one thing. The secondary story of the Duc and his aging lady love was left completely unresolved. It was brought up, got a enough attention that it seemed important and then was just swept away never to be heard of again. Tying up the loose ends is important and that didn’t happen here.
